On 26 November 2025, the community of the Department of English Philology, together with the SpeakUp! Student Academic Society, will host the third edition of Scottish Day.
The event aims to promote knowledge and culture of the English-speaking world, while also fostering integration between the academic community and local secondary schools. An equally important objective is to develop students’ organisational skills and raise their awareness of the need for local outreach and promotion.
Scottish Day will take place on K. Wielkiego 4- campus in Krosno and is expected to gather around 200 participants, including students from partner secondary schools and PANS as well as lecturers, and teachers.
The programme includes, among other activities, workshops on Scottish culture conducted by lecturers and students from the Department of English Philology.
Another highlight will be a lecture on the history of Scotland, titled “Clan, Crown and Kilt: The Story of a Nation That Would Not Be Subdued,” delivered by Dr Leszek Habrat from the Department of Dual Studies.
Also noteworthy is a talk by a native Scot, Paul Ramsay Gogolinski, on contemporary Scottish customs, including the ways in which St Andrew’s Day—the feast day of Scotland’s patron saint—is celebrated. This distinguished speaker is the president of the St Andrews Foundation, a representative of the Scottish community in Poland, and co-founder of the business enterprise Next Move.
This year’s musical vibes will come from the Celtic Triangle ensemble from Kraków. The trio consists of outstanding musicians: Lindsay Davidson—a virtuoso piper, composer, educator, Clan Piper of the Davidson Clan, and graduate of the University of Edinburgh; Irena Czubek-Davidson—the principal harpist of the Kraków Philharmonic, professor at the Academy of Music in Kraków, and an acclaimed soloist and chamber musician; and Katarzyna Wiwer—a graduate of the Academy of Music in Kraków, President of the Cultural Trail Foundation and one of the few singers in Poland who perform in Scottish and Gaelic.
The event will get an extra boost from a classic Scottish snack – shortbread, prepared by students from the Food Production and Safety Student Academic Society at PANS under the supervision of Dr Hab. Barbara Krochmal-Marczak, Professor of PANS.
There will also be exciting competitions with prizes!
We would like to thank our sponsors: the Rector of PANS in Krosno, the President of InfoSoftware Polska Ltd., the Board of Innergo Systems, and Macmillan Publishers.
